1. Repugnant – extremely distasteful; unacceptable.

Synonyms: abhorrent, revolting, repulsive, repellent, disgusting, offensive, objectionable

Antonyms: attractive, agreeable, pleasant

Usage: Because of your repugnant behavior, I no longer want to be friends with you.

 

2. Rapture – a feeling of intense pleasure or joy.

Synonyms:  ecstasy, bliss, euphoria, elation, exaltation, joy, enchantment, delight, exhilaration

Antonyms: boredom, indifference, agonize

Usage: Her eyes were filled with rapture when he held his son for the first time.

 

3. Propitiate – win or regain the favour of (a god, spirit, or person) by doing something that pleases them.

Synonyms:  appease, placate, mollify, pacify

Antonyms: Aggravate, annoy, scorn, displease

Usage: Only an idiot believes he can propitiate his way into heaven by giving the church all of his money.

 

4. Puerile –  childishly silly and immature.

Synonyms: Shallow, immature, childish, trivial

Antonyms: Wise, farsighted, profound, sensible

Usage: Your jokes are puerile and not appropriate for a woman of your years.

 

5. Occult – relating to magical or supernatural abilities

Synonyms: Latent, ambiguous, esoteric, elusive

Antonyms:Intelligible, transparent, fathomable, scrutable

Usage: His occult mask is probably going to scare most of the guests at the costume party.

 

6. Nonchalant – relaxed and calm in a way that shows you do not care or are not worried about anything

Synonyms: indifferent, negligent, uncaring, heedless

Antonyms:Attentive, considerate, vigilant, scruplous

Usage: Surprisingly, the woman was nonchalant about her husband’s death.

 

7. Mercurial – subject to sudden or unpredictable changes of mood or mind.

Synonyms: volatile, capricious, temperamental, excitable, fickle, changeable, unpredictable, variable

Antonyms: stable, steady, constant

Usage: While my uncle is as predictable as the sunrise, my aunt is very mercurial.

 

8. Mutinous – refusing to obey the orders of a person in authority.

Synonyms:  rebellious, insubordinate, subversive, seditious, insurgent, rebel, revolutionary

Antonyms: obedient, compliant

Usage: Mutinous employees are protesting low wages by not showing up for work.

 

9. Listless – lacking energy or enthusiasm.

Synonyms: uninterested, impassive; indolent, unenergetic

Antonyms: energetic, lively

Usage: The bored students were listless during the professor’s long speech

 

10. Knave – a dishonest individual

Synonyms: dishonest, scoundrel, vagabond, rogue

Antonyms: paragon, innocent, benefactor, idealist

Usage: After the knave stole the king’s crown, he was arrested and placed in the dungeon.
