1. BJP leader and Assam Badminton Association President Himanta Biswa Sarma was appointed Badminton Association of India’s interim head during its executive council meeting.
–  He was appointed after the sudden demise of former president Akhilesh Das Gupta.

2. In a bid to expand the green cover, the Maharashtra government signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Railways, under which trees will be planted on the land adjacent to the railway tracks in the state.
– The agreement was signed by General Director of Social Forestry Department, Maharashtra, and Chief Engineer of the Central Railway, in presence of financeMinister Sudhir Mundantiwar.

3. Haryana defeated Kerala with 166.5 points after six years to win the team championship at the National Youth Athletics Meet.
– Venue: – Hydrabad

4. The Asian Games in Indonesia will feature 39 sports, more than at the last event in South Korea, with some unusual additions including bridge, the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA).
– The number of sports is three higher than at the 2014 games in Incheon
– The sports programme has now been finalized to 39 sports, 53 disciplines and 426 events.

5. Former Baroda batsman Tushar Arothe has been named the Indian women’s cricket team coach, replacing Purnima Rau , two months before the World Cup which begins in England on June 24..
6. Union Minister of State (IC) for Power, Coal, New & Renewable Energy and Mines, Piyush Goyal and Ignasius Jonan, Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, Republic of Indonesia met on 20th April 2017 for the 1st ‘India Indonesia Energy Forum’, held in Jakarta, Indonesia.
– This Energy Forum was preceded by 2nd Joint Working Group (JWG) on Oil and Gas, 4th Joint Working Group on Coal and 1st Joint Working Group on New and Renewable Energy.

7. According to World Steel Association, India’s finished steel products output is likely to reach 88.6 million tonnes in the current year, registering an increase of 5.7 percent. The country produced 83.5 million tonnes (MT) of finished steel products last year.

8. Super 30 founder Anand Kumar was felicitated in the US for his efforts to help under-privileged students get into the IITs. The community members praised Kumar for coaching students from lower-income groups for free.
– The event was organised by Bihar and Jharkhand Association of North America (BAJANA)
– Super 30 is a highly ambitious and innovative educational program running under the banner of “Ramanujan School of Mathematics”. It hunts for 30 meritorious talents from among the economically backward sections of the society and shapes them for India’s most prestigious institution – the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT).
