1. Faction – a small organized dissenting group within a larger one, especially in politics.

Synonyms: clique, coalition, caucus, contingent, entente

Antonyms: individual, unity, conformity,

Usage: Sasikala faction is ‘AIADMK Amma’ and OPS’ ‘AIADMK Puratchi Thalaivi Amma’.

 

2. Veracity – conformity to facts; accuracy.

Synonyms: authenticity, credibility, impartiality, integrity, probity

Antonyms: deceit, hypothesis, infidelity

Usage: The teacher doubted the student’s veracity when he turned in a paper that had obviously been written by someone else.

 

3. Erudite – having or showing great knowledge or learning.

Synonyms: knowledgeable, literate, scholarly, brainy, cultivated, highbrow

Antonyms: uneducated, common, ignorant, uncultured

Usage: The room was full of erudite scholars who made the discussion on astronomy fun and interesting.

 

4. Engulf – sweep over (something) so as to surround or cover it completely.

Synonyms: inundate, deluge, swamp, submerge. bur, envelop, overwhelm

Antonyms: dry, neglect, uncover, underwhelm

Usage: Hopefully the politician’s past mistakes will not engulf his campaign.

 

5. Exhume – dig out (something buried, especially a corpse) from the ground.

6. Murky – dark and gloomy, especially due to thick mist.

Usage: Despite the darkness, the soldiers continued to make their way through the murky swamp.

 

7. Squabble – a noisy quarrel about something trivial.

Usage: The old couple was known to squabble about even the most trivial things.

 

8. Inadvertent – not resulting from or achieved through deliberate planning.

Antonyms: careful, cautious, intentional, advertent

Usage: Probably the most horrific consequences of violence are the inadvertent injuries or deaths of innocent bystanders.

 

9. Stalemate – to bring to a standstill.

Synonyms: delay, gridlock, impasse, standoff, arrest

Antonyms: advance, headway, progress

Usage: The judge dismissed the jury after the group failed to end their stalemate in two weeks.

 

10. Staunch – very loyal and committed in attitude.

Synonyms: stalwart, dependable, reliable, allegiant, stout

Antonyms: disloyal, undependable, unreliable, untrustworthy

Usage: Since the two countries are staunch allies it is not surprising they will work together in the war to defeat their shared enemy.
